Claudius Lodge Marks Armistice Day with the Ceremony of the Empty Chair

On 11th November 2025, Claudius Lodge No. 8700 met at St Giles Masonic Hall under special dispensation to hold a moving Ceremony of the Empty Chair in honour of fallen Brethren.

With over 80 members and guests in attendance — including Joe Shearer, Assistant Provincial Grand Master — the ceremony was conducted with dignity and precision. A chair draped in the Union Jack, bearing a white apron, stood in solemn tribute as Psalm 23 was recited, “In Flanders Fields” was read, the Last Post sounded, and two minutes’ silence observed.

The evening reflected Colchester’s strong military connections and the enduring Masonic commitment to remembrance, respect, and charity. The Festive Board raffle also raised £760 for charitable causes.
